Where you fit in –
As Researcher Offshore Wind for Yield Optimization, sitting within the team that drives the Offshore Wind Innovation Program of Shell, you’ll play a key role in identifying novel yield optimization technologies and translating these to become value-adding for our business. You’ll team up with senior wind turbine, yield and O&M experts to jointly work on the program.
What’s the role -
To support the Offshore Wind Innovation Program, you’re expected to be a team player that is curious to explore and test, but also able to mature and develop such a concept to the level where it can be handed over to the business.
More specific duties include:
Advancing Shell’s offshore wind energy yield assessment capabilities in strong collaboration with the Renewables Business
Development of windfarm level optimization strategies
Develop modelling capabilities and tools to perform wind farm level optimizations
Support developments that improve the accuracy of our energy yield assessments Support our joint ventures, like Blauwwind (Borssele), Crosswind (Hollandse Kust noord), Mayflower or Atlantic Shores, that have wind farms in development or operation on yield and performance improvements by sharing knowledge and introducing new technologies.
Support Shell’s participation and contribution in new and existing external technology collaboration projects, especially on energy yield assessments, in consortia such as:
US National Offshore Wind R&D Consortium
WindSTAR
Skills and Requirements
What we need from you -
A legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
PhD degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics (or similar) or a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the same areas plus several years of relevant experience
At least 3 years experience in Wind Energy Yield
Competence in wind turbine and wind farm flow physics
Strong computational modelling skills
Understanding of technical losses in offshore wind projects and their economic impacts
Experience calculating energy yield for large offshore wind projects
Familiarity with engineering software such as Matlab, python, R for data processing
Strong team player whilst also ability to act autonomously
Work effectively with 3rd parties
Build effective working relationship with the Renewables Wind business
Develop effective relationships with external stakeholders and experts on a working level
