Siemens US Talent AcquisitionMeshing Development Support Student Internship Location: Austin, TexasStart Date: Summer 2018Hours: Full-time during the summer Discover your career with us at Siemens PLM Software! We are a leading global software company dedicated to the world of computer aided design, 3D modeling and simulation— helping innovative global manufacturers design better products, faster! With the resources of a large company, and the energy of a software start-up, we have fun together while creating a world class software portfolio. Our culture encourages creativity, welcomes fresh thinking and focuses on growth, so our people, our business, and our customers can achieve their full potential. In the world of engineering simulation, the common theme connecting the world of aerospace, automotive, medical, energy and others, is meshing. Surface and volume meshing of complex geometries accounts for a sizeable portion of every simulation engineer in the world today. STAR-CCM is a world leader in engineering simulations, with state-of-the-art meshing tools that are constantly being enhanced by a highly experienced development team. We are seeking a motivated undergraduate or master’s student who has a strong interest in meshing. You will get the opportunity to:
Test advanced meshing tools in STAR-CCM on real world industrial geometries from the aerospace, automotive and energy sectors
Creating realistic test cases for the Thin Mesher, Wrapper & Directed Mesher based on industrial geometries
Creating an organized, searchable and online database of simulation test cases collected by engineers at Siemens PLM Software over the past few years. This database will greatly assist the meshing R&D group in testing future enhancements to STAR-CCM
Determining limitations and documenting user-experience with new meshing features in STAR-CCM on real-world engineering simulations. This insight will assist in future feature development to enhance the user experience and efficiency and help supplement beta testing done by Development Support
Based on results of the above tasks and the length of the internship, the intern may also be given additional tasks in support of meshing development
Currently enrolled in a university pursuing a undergraduate or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
