Aurora Flight Sciences is seeking a Flight Test Group Manager to support the developmental testing of highly advanced autonomous aircraft systems. This job requires a combination of flight test and managerial skill.
The Flight Operations department performs test flight, corporate flight operations, aircraft maintenance and certification for Aurora’s manned, unmanned, and optionally piloted aircraft.

The Flight Test Group Manager will be responsible for overall leadership and direction of the flight test group. Approximately 30-40% of the focus will be on the direct leadership and management of the flight test team, including personnel project assignments, goal setting, and work supervision. 60-70% of the focus will be on direct contribution to one or more test programs as a test pilot, flight test engineer, or other test role. This role reports directly to the VP, Flight Operations and Certification.
The flight test team is actively engaged in the full test program for our manned and unmanned experimental aircraft, from development of a Test and Engineering Master Plan (TEMP) to test execution and reporting. Organization, strategic thinking, and planning skills are essential. This is a multi-disciplinary role that interacts with multiple internal and external organizations, so written and verbal communication skills are critical. Specific responsibilities for this position include:
Manage Aurora’s team of flight test professionals, including test pilots and flight test engineers. This includes an ongoing assessment of flight test needs across the company, determining and filling resource needs, and managing personnel assignments across the programs. This component also includes the technical direction and mentorship of the team, and setting flight test policies and procedures.
Support development, operation and demonstration of autonomous aircraft systems.
Lead and/or participate in system design and design reviews (commensurate with background engineering discipline).
Serve as Pilot In Command, Flight Test Engineer, or other crew member of experimental / developmental aircraft (commensurate with background and technical discipline).
Develop test strategies, test plans and test procedures for the aerospace vehicles and components given systems requirements. Collect and analyze test data and compile detailed test reports.
Must have direct experience in the conduct of ground and flight test of aerospace vehicles.
Must have demonstrated leadership skills and experience. Prior experience with direct supervision or management is desired.
Strong technical foundation and skills in one or more of the following engineering disciplines:
Mechanical / Structures
Must have direct experience developing test strategies. Test & Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPS); test objective definition, test procedure generation and review, test execution and test reporting.
Be able to interface routinely with a multi-disciplined team to include military and government customers, team contractors and various subcontractors.
Be independent and motivated; able to self-direct and manage time.
Be able to travel 20% of time to support CONUS activities.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Science or Engineering with 10 years of professional experience.
Must be a U.S. Person (Citizen, Green Card/Permanent Resident)
Graduate of recognized test pilot school (USAF TPS, USNTPS, NTPS, etc) is highly desired.
5 years of experience in flight test. Demonstrated expertise in the development of test plans, execution of flight test, and test reporting.
Demonstrated experience in a leadership or personnel management position.
Ability to maintain a 2
class FAA medical certificate is highly desired.
