Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Global Commodity Manager for Telecomm & Networks to include Telecommunications, Networks, Telco-hardware, Telco-software, WAN data services, MAN voice and data services, local dial tone and interconnect services, network managed services and Internet Services (ISP), Wireless Mobility – Phones, Smartphones, Tablets, Air Cards, and Hotspots, Local and Long-Distance Services SIP and Unified Communications, Hardware and Maintenance – PBX, Routers, Switches, etc., Telecom Expense Management, HDVC, Conferencing.
The selected candidate will also play a key role in leading the Category in support of BAE System’s Information Management & Technology (IM&T) strategy and footprint under the IM&T Council Standardization program. Experience with transforming the Telecomm & Networks Category including leveraging global spend is desirable.

Required Skills and Education
The objective of the role is to develop and implement best-in-class Global Telecomm & Networks technology sourcing strategies and purchasing processes which enable BAE systems to accelerate profitable growth while driving efficiency, reducing spend, improving stakeholder buy-in and enabling overall value creation. Working with the Director of Global Category Management for Information Technology, this role will define global, regional and local Telecomm & Networks category sourcing strategies and then determine how best to implement and track performance against those strategies (metrics). In addition, the selected candidate will manage stakeholder relationships and achieve buy-in for the Global Telecomm & Networks Technology sourcing strategies and business case for change. Establishing strong global partnerships with internal Stakeholders and enterprise suppliers will be critical.
The primary responsibility of the Director of Category Management for the Telecomm & Networks Category is to manage and secure the total cost of ownership (TCO), reductions for global technology spend and to institutionalize strategic Telecomm & Networks Category sourcing across BAE Systems globally. As a process leader responsible for strategic sourcing effectiveness, the incumbent has the following specific responsibilities:
Drives strategic category management for Telecomm & Networks globally across BAE Systems business units
Ensures Telecomm & Networks Category strategy incorporates IM&T plans and is in line with overall Global IT Category Management procurement strategy.
Establishes and builds strong internal relationships and cultivates key stakeholders to clearly understand requirements.
Leads the Telecomm & Networks internal stakeholders in support of business goals and communicates with leadership teams on Telecomm & Networks supplier value propositions, supply market trends and supplier performance metrics.
Develops thorough agreements which includes analyzing spend, gathering and defining requirements; developing strategies and associated RFPs; conducting financial analysis; selecting suppliers; negotiating prices; developing and negotiating contract terms and conditions; developing service level agreements and reporting metrics in accordance with regulatory and legal department requirements.
Leads the development of category strategies that enables spend management, improves supplier performances and mitigates risk.
Provides leadership with in-depth knowledge on market conditions, industry trends and product knowledge.
Builds performance based Telecomm & Networks supplier relationships that lead to optimal pricing, quality improvements, process improvements and delivery of world class solutions.
Helps to address and develop weaknesses identified in development plans in Primary and Secondary Telecomm & Networks Suppliers.
Creates reporting metrics and scorecards relating to savings and Telecomm & Networks supplier performance and conducts strategic Telecomm & Networks supplier performance reviews using supplier scorecards to develop continuous improvement initiatives and actions.
Works closely with Finance, Legal and Procurement teams to track and monitor savings and timing.
Preferred Skills and Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain/Supplier Management or equivalent degree. MBA preferred.
Proven negotiations and responsibility for managing annual procurement spend of $100M .
10-15 years’ experience in strategic IT Sourcing /category or supplier management related disciplines including broad procurement experience, of which 5-10 years must specifically be Subject Matter Expert(SME) knowledge and Experience in Telecomm & Networks Sourcing.
Global experience preferred.
Experience in implementing cost reduction initiatives in a global, multi-business environment.
Able to work across all segments of the Purchasing value chain, i.e. sourcing, contract management, procure-to-pay, eSourcing, vendor risk management and vendor management, etc.
Experience leading major projects and change programs that have positively impacted global business goals.
Exceptional management/team leadership skills evidenced by a track record of success leading engagements or other problem-solving initiatives requiring coordination of cross-function team members with varied backgrounds and skills.
Proven experience in developing deep supplier partnerships and consolidating Telecomm & Networks suppliers on a regional and global basis.
Experience in global industries with a strong customer centric focus. Able to partner with senior leadership and the divisional business councils and executive committees to execute programs enabled through Telecomm & Networks technology sourcing.
A demonstrated ability to think strategically and act as a thought partner with teammates, senior leadership, and key stakeholders is important. The successful candidate is able to synthesize unrelated ideas to identify the optimal Telecomm & Networks technology sourcing solution and develop a coherent plan or vision.
Demonstrated experience using superior quantitative and analytical capabilities along with the ability to translate analysis into management insights, actions and results using purchasing and vendor data, as well as supply market insights.
Effective organizational, leadership and presentation skills.
Results-oriented.
Strong business focus with demonstrated ability to act in partnership with management teams.
Proven leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively manage through influence.
