Job Description

Appareo is a fast growing business with aviation products at it core, and with a road map that continues to advance our aviation products. These are avionic hardware and software products which are supplied through our own aviation dealer network and also directly to other avionics system manufacturers and many established aviation OEMs. With this growth Appareo is expanding it’s avionics certification capability and is looking for a certification engineer who can join the team and grow with our aviation business.

Responsible for leading avionics certification activities at Appareo and being the subject matter expert at Appareo for our avionic certification activities, the certification engineer will also manage the certification process improvements so that we are continually improving the businesses certification capabilities and working to reduce the time it takes for avionics products to get to market.

The engineer works as part of the Appareo aviation business team and works directly with the business leader and president, product & program managers, engineering and our clients to manage the avionics certification of new and existing avionic products and this includes the submittal of compliance documentation to certification authorities and also representing the Appareo aviation business to the certification authorities, suppliers, clients and industry associations.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field (preferably in Aerospace or Mechanical), 2-5 years related experience, and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

Hands-on experience with aircraft structures and avionics installations

Familiarity with geometry extraction from CAD software

Familiarity with Federal Regulations, Orders, and Advisory Circulars

Previous experience with FAA certification activities

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the complex documents

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Participate in cross-functional teams as a subject matter expert in the avionics certification process

Keeps management informed of area activities, changes in competitive conditions, and significant problems

Develop efficient and accurate certification approaches for 14 CFR part 23/27 aircraft modifications

Assist in the preparation and verification of aircraft installation and FAA certification documents

Coordinate Appareo engineering and product management to communicate, execute and meet project goals

Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly

Travel requirement of 5-10% to meetings, regulators, and flight test sites

Assist support with technical issues and questions

Regular attendance due to face to face interaction with teams, clients, and other employees along with the use of on-site equipment

Actively involved in industry groups: GAMA, RTCA, AEA

Represent Appareo’s interest in FAA policy changes, directly with the FAA and with industry groups
