The Aerospace Engineering & Technology organization has an immediate opening (located in Phoenix AZ, 34th St campus) for a Research & Development Lead Engineer. The selected candidate will be the Turbine Module Leader for the Advanced Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) which supports growth within the Engines & Power Systems Business. This is a critical, multi-year, high visibility growth program. It is an exciting time for an experienced engineer with team leadership and project management experience to join the Honeywell Advanced Technology team. This is a great position to showcase your skills in a highly visible role.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced APU Turbine Module Leader
Budget responsibility in excess of $2M per year with significant growth over the STRAP period
Project Engineering skills to lead a matrix team in the research, development and test validation of the next generation turbine module, including:
Nozzle
Rotor
Structures
Secondary flow system
High temperature, longer life advanced materials
State of the art casting and additive manufacturing techniques
Turbine aero rig for test validation
No direct reports. Provide direction to 10-20 matrix team members. Mentor junior engineers.
Translate customer requirements into system, product and component requirements
Lead engineering trade studies. Support technology development proposals.
Develop/support strategic roadmaps and business cases for transformative technologies
Lead internal and external design reviews. Support technical interchange meetings with customers.
Effectively manage intellectual property through the timely submittal of patent disclosures. Interface with patent portfolio managers and patent attorneys as needed.
Develop technology project plans, including charter, schedule, HMR milestones, resource plan, cost estimate and risk management plan
Lead and execute projects to meet or beat plan
Utilize the earned value management system in collaboration with Program Planning & Control personnel
Take appropriate, proactive steps to minimize variances to plan
Identify risks early and develop swift and effective corrective action plans
YOU MUST HAVE
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
8 years of experience in engineering
3 years of project leadership experience with personal accountability for schedule performance and management of a budget greater than $1M per year
5 years of experience with development of turbines for auxiliary power units (APU) or gas turbine engines for commercial or military customers
WE VALUE
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials or similar)
Experience in project engineering or program management
Advanced degree or PMP certification
Proven track record of meeting technical, schedule and budget commitments while satisfying internal and external customers
Relevant experience in proposal preparation and new business development
Action-oriented, self-starting approach with ability to decompose overall goals into detailed action plans
Strong problem-solving skills
Self-motivated, empowered, team leader with proven track record of working effectively across geographic and cultural boundaries
Strong leadership, interpersonal, presentation, written and oral communication skills
Able to positively influence others, and resolve conflicts quickly and tactfully
