Role Summary:

This role of Senior Staff Engineer offers accountability for preliminary and detailed aerodynamic design, leadership of domestic US and global aerodynamic design teams and project leadership responsibility towards the development of GE Aviation’s next generation commercial and military Fans, Boosters and Compressors and associated aerodynamic compressor technology and processes while influencing and helping to define business strategy.

Essential Responsibilities:

Additionally, as the Senior Staff Engineer, Key Responsibilities will include:

Aerodynamic design leadership of domestic and global design teams to meet program goals for advanced turbomachinery compression components and technology

Apply advanced skills in preliminary and detailed aerodynamic design and computational fluid dynamics to provide guidance & influence program strategy

Formulate, implement and execute plans to achieve technical and project requirements, schedules and contract commitment while collaborating with horizontal organizations

Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments as appropriate

Prime aerodynamic interface with internal customers & foster horizontal collaboration with multi-disciplinary organizations to develop next generation compression components and associated advanced technology

Support and drive the development and expansion of Compression Aero tools and processes related to design, analysis / CFD, test and/or productivity

Influence and help define strategies for next generation compression components

Drive innovation and technology maturation for next gen engine architectures

Foster internal and external customer and global partner relationships and collaboration

Analysis of engine or rig test data to validate component design versus technical requirements

Lead technical reviews and participate as a reviewer

Provide technical guidance and mentor / coach team members across the organization

Leverage experience to support current small commercial compression components :

cost reduction

on-time delivery

manufacturing

and field issues

Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university

Minimum of 5 years of experience with aerodynamic design of turbomachinery components, or close coordination with the aerodynamic design functions Desired Characteristics:

Advanced Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering relevant to turbomachinery aerodynamics from an accredited university or college

Minimum of 10 years of experience with aerodynamic design of turbomachinery components, or close coordination with the aerodynamic design function

Expert knowledge of state of the art fan & compressor aerodynamics

Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance

Strong project management skills including ability to influence and guide others

Expert knowledge and proficiency in tools and processes related to aerodynamic design, testing, and system development

Expert knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD); modeling, applications & processes

Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
