**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with extensive knowledge and strong communication skills to join our team of well qualified, diverse individuals at our Lorton, VA engineering center and Corporate headquarters.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Work as part of a team of mechanical and other engineers in solving complex DoD/aerospace system challenges to produce designs, tactical prototypes, and production end items
Support development of Sensor Systems and Electronics Systems
Develop work basis of estimates and other pricing inputs, work plans, and technical proposal inputs
Lead and support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), working with customer, **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., and third-party stakeholders.
Apply experience and capabilities in various industry best practices, including:
Standard practices for military hardware selections
Selection of finishes suitable for military environments
Design of adjusters to produce desired range and resolution
Methods for athermalization of optical systems
Optics mounting techniques
Assembly and alignment schemes for optical systems
Environmental testing practices
Requirements flow down
Design for lowest mass while meeting deflection and stress requirements
Knowledge of composite material construction techniques and properties
Stress and modal analysis – FEA/Finite Difference and semi-empirical
Thermal analysis – FEA/Finite Difference and semi-empirical
Fixture and tooling design
Engineering disposition and corrective action experience for production defects
Space and/or clean room environment assembly practices
Support technology and system transition from first article to limited and full production
BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
10 years of related experience
Experience with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, motion control, machining and manufacturing processes, mold and casting development, airflow and thermal FEA analysis, and mounting of optical components is highly desirable.
Experience with SolidWorks, Pro-Engineer, or similar CAD software required.
Ability to obtain Security clearance required. Active Security Clearance a plus
