Description: The selected candidate will join the Spacecraft Center of Excellance as a member of the Propulsion Engineering team. This program area design, develops, builds, tests and operates Propulsion Subsystems for spacecraft. These tasks include designing, building and testing development hardware that are flight like. The candidate will be expected to develop concepts, create detail engineering drawings and plans and oversee the build, assembly and test of the hardware at the component and subsystem level. This will require the candidate to work closely with the analysis, manufacturing and procurement teams to deliver hardware to support program schedules. In addition, this position requires support of RFI's and RFP's, including the development of spacecraft concepts to support various payloads. This includes sizing and modeling of the propulsion subsystem ensuring the system level requirements and CONOP's are met. Additionally, this position may be required to author labor and non-labor cost estimates and text for the proposals. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Generate and update solid models using CREO CAD design tool. Create and revise detailed drawings, facilitate cross-discipline interface definition, organize and lead table reviews, and release engineering work products in EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management). Review requirements from various sources (dynamics, stress, systems, thermal, manufacturing, etc.), and ensure that applicable requirements are flowed into the detailed design of the productsDemonstrates an exceptional work ethic and has a basic understanding of a broad range of topics in the mechanical engineering discipline. Possess good process focus and is able to intelligently apply standard processes to real-world applications. Work effectively in a small agile development team.Desired Skills: - Proficient with CAD modeling and drafting- Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 / GD&T- Experience working with internal/external suppliers- Experience working with 3D printers - Experience designing and developing mechanical parts and subassemblies- Experience working in a manufacturing environment Basic Qualifications: - Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technologies, or equivalent experience- Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering design principles- Ability to work within small agile development teams- Familiarity with CREO or similar mechanical CAD tools for layout, concept definition, design, and drawings of mechanical hardware- Knowledge of Mechanical Design principles including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- Demonstrated organizational skills- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance Lockheed Martin is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
